The 3rd edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show (HKIDGPS) featured 1,886 exhibitors with loose stones and jewellery raw materials while the 33rd edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Jewellery Show (HKIJS) offered finished jewellery collections of 2,502 exhibitors, attracting over 80,000 buyers from 147 countries and regions altogether. The two five-day shows offered a more spacious and comprehensive trading platform for both exhibitors and buyers, and thus creating business opportunities.

The World Marketplace for Diamonds, Gems & Pearls

Adopting the theme of “Sea Sparkle”, the 3rd edition of the HKTDC Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show was successfully held during 1-5 March 2016 at the AsiaWorld-Expo, featuring 1,886 exhibitors from 42 countries and regions.

The Hall of Fine Diamonds and the Treasures of Nature returned with top-grade diamonds and precious gemstones respectively, while the Treasures of Ocean featured exquisite pearls. In response to buyers’ sourcing needs, a new Rough Stones & Minerals zone was introduced this year to showcase unpolished and uncut gemstones.

Seven influential organisations in the jewellery industry have set up pavilions, including International Colored Gemstone Association and New York Diamond Dealers Club. The show also welcomed the first-time participation of Tanzanite Foundation as well as its violet-blue gemstones, which were first discovered exclusively in Tanzania within the past 50 years.

The show attracted a total of 31,242 buyers from 137 countries and regions. They included 6,725 Hong Kong visitors and 24,517 visitors from outside Hong Kong, illustrating the internationality of the show. Among overseas buyers, significant growth was recorded for the no. of buyers from the Chinese mainland, India, the Philippines, Vietnam, the UK and Malaysia. The enthusiastic participation of overseas visitors well-reflected the show’s position as the world marketplace for diamonds, gems and pearls.

Together with HKIJS, over 110 overseas buying missions were organised, bringing in some quality 9,300 buyers from 78 countries and regions who were key players in the industry. They included buying representatives from Blue Nile and Zale Corporation from the United States, Crown Jewellery from Indonesia, Gitanjali Group from India, P. Hertz from Denmark, Sophie by Sophie from Sweden, Gulaylar Kuyumculuk from Turkey and Farzi Jewelry from United Arab Emirates.
